Within perfumery, there are three categories of perfume namely Men’s, Women’s and Unisex. But what is really the difference between these fragrances, and when are they pigeonholed. This is often classified on the perception of smell. However, there are some fragrance notes that are hardly ever used in the men’s category. Jasmine, rose and gourmand are not often encountered in a man’s olfactory pyramid. These flowers and sweets are seen as very feminine is hardly used for that reason.
Among women, you don’t encounter much lavender. This is one of those typical aromatic fragrances that many women find very pleasant yet not often found in women’s perfumes. Unisex is very much on the rise right now. The nice thing is that there are a little more options within this category. And how nice it is that you and your partner can wear the same scents.
Despite the different categories, we find that it is not so black and white these days. Men and women are increasingly choosing what they like for themselves instead of looking at the label. Regularly, men come along who like to wear a rose fragrance, and on the other hand, more and more women are choosing an aromatic fragrance.
We at TapParfum® are a proponent of someone choosing for themselves what they like and this is independent of the pigeonhole it is placed in. Choose your own scent!
